Screen Recorders

Screen Recorders would be useful for any "how to" lesson. From a teachers standpoint, they could use it to teach their students about new technology that they will be using, such as a blog or wiki. It would be a great resource for any job really. If a company is getting some new software, they could use a screen recorder to walk their employees through how to use it. It is neat, however not something that you would use in everyday life, such as flickr or You Tube.

Flickr

This is definitely something that I will be using. From a teacher standpoint this could enhance learning in so many ways. You could take pictures from a field trip or even take pictures of your own trip and use it as a teaching tool. I also thought of its use with a webquest. That could be part of the students participation. They could keep a photo journal of their process, then put it on flickr. It could be used in a daycare, so that parents could see pictures of what the kids are doing, field trips, guests, etc. without the director having to print and send home a bunch of pictures. It would also be a useful tool for missionaries. They could put up pictures and the church could view them together. It has so many uses!!!!

YouTube

Since I am currently not a teacher, I have decided to find four You Tube posts for different purposes.

The first one that I choose was about a webquest. I am currently taking a course about webquests, so I found one that is very helpful for setting one up. A webquest is something that could be very helpful to a teacher wanting to incorportate some new ways of teaching. A webquest is fun for students, incorporates technology, and will meet learning goals as set up by the teacher.

The next post that I found helpful would be for a science teacher. This particular post is about the five states of matter. This would be beneficial for the teacher to give them a break and allow the children to hear a different voice. Also, the student could come back and listen again at home while studying for a test. This would meet the science learning goal.

The third search that I did was for something that could be useful for my pastor. I searched for someone that I know she enjoyed listening to. Then I found a subject that I that she would enjoy teaching on. She could now go to this post and use it along with her teaching to enhance it and keep peoples attention.

The last one that I found would be useful for our daycare director at our church daycare. It offers lessons for teaching music. She could view this and have her workers view it also, then teach this music lesson. It is so much easier to hear a song and see it being preformed, then to read it out of a music book, and try to guess the exact tune. I think that she would find this very beneficial in a lot of subject areas.

Podcast

Podcasts are cool. I had a lot of fun playing around with it and recording my children. This is a neat way to record the kids singing a new song or saying a new word so that all of my family and friends can hear it too. The kids also think that it is really neat to listen to themselves. Podcasting also has value in other things also. For example, this link http://www.nytimes.com/ref/multimedia/podcasts.html will take you to the New York Times where you can find information on book reviews, the election, questions and answers, and just about everything else you were looking for. All of the news stations have podcasts now, so you can go to there sites and listen to the news that you may have missed earlier. CNN, for example, has hourly podcasts to keep you up on all of the latest news http://www.cnn.com/services/podcasting/. There are just tons of uses for podcasting, and it is fun!

Is bloging and social networking allowed in school?

Our local schools do not allow any type of social networking. If a blog is school based, then it would be allowed. If a blog belongs to a students, just to socialize and keep people up to date, then it is prohibited. They do not allow Myspace, Facebook, etc., but the children are allowed to check and send email.
I think that a blog would be a wonderful tool for students and parents if one were created specifically for a class. If a student got home and forgot their homework assignment, then they could get on the blog and see what it was. They could even post a comment about needing some help with an assignment and others could respond. It would also be beneficial for parents to get on and see what their student is doing in class. If the teacher took time to update it and keep it up, it would be a wonderful tool for parents and students.

Views on Internet Safety

I think that you have to be very careful about how much information you give out about yourself over the internet. There are a lot of people who will use the information that they find online to steal your identity, find out where you live, or even to get to your children. I have really enjoyed myspace because you can post pictures and all kinds of information about your life, but people have to ask to have access to your page. At least you have controll over who views your information.
I personally have not had any issues where anyone has abused my information on the internet. Although, I am just now getting familiar with all of these extra things that you can do online, so I really haven't posted very much information about myself. I am very overprotective, or at least that's what my daughter says, with my children when they are online. I am just now allowing my high schooler to have an email and myspace. The only way that I agreed to this, is if I have the log in and password to monitor her. In this day and age, I don't think that we can be to involved in what our children are doing, who they are talking to, and what their interests are.
